The study of Buddhism has long been an integral part of understanding the cultural, philosophical, and religious dynamics across Eurasia. The Journal of Eurasian Buddhist Studies (JEBS) aims to provide a dedicated platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to explore, analyze, and disseminate knowledge about the diverse manifestations of Buddhism across the Eurasian continent. The journal will address a gap in current scholarly discourse by focusing on the intricate connections, historical developments, and contemporary relevance of Buddhism within and across Eurasian regions.
The Journal of Eurasian Buddhist Studies (JEBS) aspires to:
- Promote scholarly research on Buddhism within Eurasia, emphasizing the region’s diverse and interconnected traditions.
- Foster interdisciplinary dialogue by integrating perspectives from history, philosophy, anthropology, art history, archaeology, and religious studies.
- Encourage the study of lesser-known Buddhist traditions and communities within Eurasia, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of Buddhism’s impact and legacy.
- Serve as a platform for emerging scholars and established experts to publish original research, reviews, and critical essays.
- Enhance global understanding of Eurasian Buddhism’s role in cultural exchange, trade, and the shaping of social and political identities across the region
The journal will address topics including:
- Historical spread and development of Buddhism across Eurasia.
- Buddhism’s influence on cultural, social, and political landscapes.
- Interactions with other religious and philosophical traditions.
- Artistic and architectural expressions of Buddhism.
- Transmission of Buddhist texts and practices.
- Contemporary developments in Buddhist communities.
- Comparative studies across Eurasian countries.
- Sacred languages pertaining to Eurasian Buddhist Studies.
The journal is intended for an audience of scholars, researchers, students, and practitioners with an interest in Buddhist studies, Asian studies, religious studies, history, anthropology, and related fields. It will be of particular value to those engaged in the study of Eurasian cultures and the spread of religious and philosophical ideas across borders.
The Journal of Eurasian Buddhist Studies (JEBS) will publish the following types of contributions:
- Research Articles: In-depth scholarly articles presenting original research on topics related to Buddhism in Eurasia.
- Review Articles: Critical reviews of current research trends, books, and other publications within the field.
- Essays: Thought-provoking essays exploring conceptual, methodological, or theoretical issues in the study of Eurasian Buddhism.
- Book Reviews: Reviews of recent books in the field of Buddhist Studies, with a focus on Eurasian contexts.
- Special Issues: Thematic issues focusing on specific topics or regions, curated by guest editors.
The editorial board of the Journal of Eurasian Buddhist Studies (JEBS) will consist of leading scholars from diverse disciplines and geographic regions, ensuring a wide range of expertise and perspectives. The journal will adhere to a rigorous double-blind peer review process, maintaining high academic standards and ensuring the quality and originality of published research.
- Deadline for Submission: 15th of October 2024
- Document Formats: Submissions must be provided in both Word and PDF formats.
- Word Limit: Articles should be between 8000-11000 words.
- Font: Times New Roman for both English and Non-English text.
- Line Spacing: 1.5.
- Referencing Style: Harvard referencing style. Endnotes and a reference list are required.
- Abstract: A 250-word abstract must be included at the beginning of the article.
- Keywords: 2-4 keywords should be included at the end of the abstract.
- Short Biography: A brief biography (100 words) must be sent along with the article, including the author’s name, qualifications, research area, and the University/academic institute where the author is affiliated.
